The Crux of Conviction – Luke 23:13-25

Convictions can run deep. They lead us to make choices and are the thrust behind heated debates on all kinds of issues. But what are these convictions based on? Or more importantly – whose truth?

Our text today shows what can happen when one mans conviction fails under pressure from competing convictions. And the church in America should heed the lesson if it is to take back the ground it has given away.

The Church as an institution and as individuals must make sure that the convictions we hold are truly based on God’s truth and not our own version of truth. If not, then the crowds will continue to dictate and direct the mission. It’s one thing to believe something, but we must know WHY we believe or we risk listening to the masses more than God.
